Anyone have this on tape?

I'd love to have a copy of this on VHS or DVD, if anyone has it. My e-mail is [email protected]

Did anyone respond that they had a VHS or DVD of The Snow Goose? It is such
a classic and good and wholesome for young people. The theme of unselfish
love is quite unique today. I would love to have a copy.

I saw your request for a copy of "Snow Goose" and I have a second generation VHS copy of the original program somewhere in my collection. I have not viewed it in years, my wife previously used it in her eight grade English class but has not done so recently. I can not vouch for the quality except to say it is "old".
I am willing to share this treasure with you if you choose to contact me re: the logistics,
I will be away on vacation until the first of the year. E-mail me if you are enterested following up on this.

I would love to arrange with you to get a copy of the tape for my 82 yr.old retired teacher mother-in-law. She has vivid memories of the movie, and has hoped to find it for a long time. Contact me at [email protected]; I would be happy to call you to discuss "the logistics". Thank you, gohnsman

Hello;

I am a 56 year old grandfather who would like very much to see this wonderful movie again, and with my grandkids. If you do have this tape, I would like to obtain a copy of it. I can send you payment in advance, of course. As this was a Hallmark/British co-production, the copy would have to be NTSC (US) VHS compatible, and not a PAL version. How is the general quality? Have you tried to clone it yet, and if so, how did it turn out. I can't believe that Hallmark hasn't released this great movie. Please reply at your convenience. I'll look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Were you successful in making a copy of the video? If so, I would love to get a copy from you. We loved the book so much we named our daughter "Fritha". My husband has seen the movie twice; I've seen it once, and she's never seen it. We would love to be able to show it to her. Please email me at [email protected] if you were able to make a copy.

Greetings--I no nothing about how this works, but am keen to find out if in fact it is possible to get a tape of the Snow Goose. I see that many people are looking for it. My husband was the sound editor on the picture, and would love to have it (he's now a psychologist and sometimes pines for his days with the BBC). Thanks for your response! NC

Like so many other folks I am looking for a copy of The Snow Goose. I have friends at Hallmark --but they say even they don't have a good copy. I say we demand they remake the thing!

Hello NC, I was doing some research to see if I could find a copy of this great movie, and came across the message you left (above). I have a 9 year-old, and know that she'd love it. Did you ever find a copy? If so, can you connect me with the person who provided one to you?
thanks,
Ken

I see that you recently inquired about getting a copy of this movie. Were you successful at all? I would love to have a copy too. I can't believe a movie as good as this was hasn't been available or shown for so long.

Hello,
My name is Steve Valicevic and I'm yet another person looking for a VHS or DVD copy of the 1971 movie tittled The Snow Goose. Is there anyway you could get me a copy of your VHS? Any help you could provide is sincerely appreciated. Please e-mail me at [email protected].

Thank you for any responce

Oh, my! I had forgotten that I posted this request, and just got an email with the various responses. I would be so pleased to do whatever it would take to get a copy of this tape. I can't imagine that you would part with the original, but if you were to be so trusting I would be glad to make a copy--perhaps it would be wise to copy it digitally...? I don't have the equipment here but think it should probably be taken somewhere reliable, anyway. I will be happy to pay for the transfer, and research local places who can do it, if you send me information regarding your whereabouts. These things can turn into big productions, and I want to make your generosity as easy on you as possible! Please let me know at your earliest convenience. My email address:

Thanks for your response!!

I saw an old email of yours about The Snow Goose. You said you might have a VHS copy (not very good).
I wonder if you ever found that copy and if you are still willing to provide a copy (I'll pay the expenses) to someone who really wants to see it again.

Thanks,

Like all those before me, I have spent years searching and awaiting the appearance of a video tape of The Snow Goose. I do have a cound recording on 90' cassette with short piece missing in middle, but nothing like the Video itself. If so many people are looking for it, and it is such a high quality production, wouldn't it be possible for Hallmark to clear the rights issue and bring it out as a limited edition for collectors? In the meantime, I would be most grateful to anyone who has a video copy they could send me. Please write to me at [email protected] with any information. I could pay related costs. Many thanks.

Snow Goose (1971) is available if you’re persistent

For all you fans of THE SNOW GOOSE who, like me, fondly recalled seeing Patrick Garland’s 1971 BBC TV movie of Paul Gallico’s touching story about a lonesome hunchback, Philip Rhyader (Richard Harris), a shy girl, Frith[a] (Jenny Agutter) and a wounded Canadian snow goose, good news.

After reading everyone’s glowing reminiscences on this message board, I was dying to see it again ahead of the remake, also starring Jenny Agutter and Scottish comic Billy Connolly, which is apparently “in production.”

(On that, by the way, Variety.com said this, May 19, 2005:
MacKinnon to cook 'Goose’ for Arclight
WWII pic adaptation penned by 'Sahara's' Hart
 By DANA HARRIS
"Hideous Kinky" helmer Gillies MacKinnon will direct "The Snow Goose," starring Olivier Martinez, Emily Blunt, Billy Connolly and Jenny Agutter.
Set in England during the early years of World War II, "The Snow Goose" is the tale of an emotionally and physically scarred outsider, his friendship with a young woman and the injured snow goose that brings them together.
James V. Hart ("Sahara") adapted the screenplay from Paul Gallico's novel.
Arclight Films handles international sales on the pic, budgeted at $20 million. Pic will shoot in Belgium, the United Kingdom and France.
The film is produced by Ashley and Robert Sidaway with AT Prods.' Arnault de Battice and GMT Prods.' Jean-Pierre Guerin. Claude Léger and Jonathan Vanger are executive producers.)

Anyway, I was delighted to find a message on this board, since deleted, that stated, “I have Snow Goose on DVD.” I was a tad skeptical and e-mailed the guy who’d posted this tantalizing news to ask if his copy was watchable. (S)he wrote back saying, “Yes the quality is very much watchable. Price is $25 including shipping. I accept paypal, stormpay and money orders.”

For twenty-five bucks, it was worth a try. So I PayPal-ed my $25 and was delighted to receive the DVD one week later. Though this isn’t an endorsement, I can recommend this route to anyone else who seriously wants to see this wonderful film again. My wife and I watched it last night, and we were both reduced to tears.

As for the quality of the DVD-R itself, well, as a former President might say, it depends on your definition of “very much watchable.” The picture quality is abysmal (but whaddya expect from a 35-year-old movie that isn’t commercially available anywhere?) It looks like a third or fourth generation VHS copy of a broadcast apparently taped on an ancient VCR via rabbit ears rather than cable. But if you squint and ignore the overall fuzziness, pixellation, and fluctuating, washed-out color, you can make out a (young looking) Richard Harris and (very young looking) Jenny Agutter. The sound is acceptable and Carl Davis’ emotional score comes through relatively loud and clear.

Above all, it’s proof of what a travesty/tragedy it is that this charming little TV movie isn’t otherwise available on the legitimate market. We can only pray that when the producers of the (purported) new version eventually release it on DVD they’ll have the good grace to include this on the disc as an intriguing extra.

Meanwhile, without getting into a debate about the ethics of circulating pirated versions of otherwise unobtainable old movies (can it really be unethical if nobody’s losing out on royalties, because there are clearly no plans to re-release this particular title in the foreseeable future?), I’ll be happy to pass on details of how I obtained this rare-as-hens’-teeth DVD copy via e-mail. Write me at: [email protected]. The vendor says that imdb.com removed him/her from their site, presumably because they fear incurring the wrath of the Hollywood piracy police.

Good luck and happy viewing, Snow Goosers.
