just watched it for the first time

a lot of people hate this movie from the threads I have been reading. I thought it was charming.

I used to absolutely adore this movie, back when it was shown frequently on TV.

But I was below the age of reason so I have no idea whether it's a genuinely good film, or a sticky mess. I'm just glad to hear someone still likes it, and it's still available for viewing.

Whatever its logical flaws, its heart is in the right place. I saw it when it first appeared in theaters & loved it then; when re-watching it in recent years, while noting those logical flaws, I find that overall it still works for me. I see it as a cautionary fable from the dawn of the modern environmental movement, warning about the fate of the natural world if we "develop" every inch of greenspace. And if that's exaggerated, it's still done to good effect.

A nice and accurate way to summarize the movie. The film captures the early days of the environmental movement, portraying it as pure and less political. Despite some logical flaws, it's a pleasant and naive tale with a good performance by Dern. I found the contradiction between the main character's attitude towards humanity and nature to be intriguing.

I think most people enjoy the movie, but at the same time, they find it hard to overlook the lack of logic. Some view it as a form of green propaganda, and it's not too far from the truth.
