Music Better than Movie.

Dont get me wrong, I really liked this movie and think it's a great part of blaxploitaion cinema but I cant get the soundtrack out of my head. I was more into the great music more than I was with the movie. Anyone feel the same?

(my favorite song was Soulsvile)

Ya, you would think it was a film about a Black James Bond

It's just your opinion.
My 'adventure' with Blaxploitation started with listening to Curtis Mayfield's 'Superfly'. Then I heard Isaac Hayes' 'Shaft theme'. And I started to love Black music from 70s...
I've finished this movie now - for a second time - and I must admitt, that I liked it much more than the watching for a first time.
Its music is so gorgeous, and it really harmonizes with the movie... Worth Oscar, really worth...
And Richard Roundtree - really tough man!

Great theme music. Really fine use of space. I really like the use of the string section; they play the bent third while the horns play the straight triad. It's sly.

This is one of most well crafted prologue introductions to a movie, around. Brilliant. The timing of the music and the visuals is superb. I like the way the female chorus sing the single word, "Shaft". It's a killer.

The theme starts with that high hat beat. That's talent. Less is more.

I haven't seen this movie for quite a while, and I enjoyed it again. Didn't even hit the fast forward to many times. Great ending.

The theme from Shaft gas always been one of my favorites themes ever. It's a true classic. Black Moses is the man!

Anything was better than this film, and I tried to like it.

The theme song is right up there with Goldfinger in terms of iconic motion picture theme songs. Unfortunately the movie was a low budget flick unlike Goldfinger. I too like the movie especially the look back at early 1970s New York before everything became sanitized.
