The Week of the Killer is the correct translation of the original title, which is totally accurate with the plot. But in order to lure abroad audiences to watch the film, they gave it the gory but absurd cannibal title, which probably did more damage to the film's chances of success than anything else.

Yeah, I agree, English title makes no sense.
I picked it up because I knew it was Video Nasty, so with that title I expected something along the line as Cannibal Apocalypse, but it ended up being lot better movie then I expected.
I too found it quite good actually, and visually explicit in terms of violence and gore for the time when it was made. Censorship in Spain was quite tough in those days, and I am surprised they allowed this film to be released at all. And it is not just the gore stuff but the homosexual subtext as well in the scenes with Marcos and his wealthy neighbour from the tower block. Eloy de la Iglesia is famous for making films about social outcasts in the last years of Franco's regime (drug-addicts, gays, rent-boys). In a way he was a predecessor to Almodovar.

The meat is sold to the bar where Marcos has his dinners, yes, but the moment he finds out as he is about to take a spoonful of stew he almost faints sick with repugnance, and pushes the plate aside and leaves in a hurry. A cannibal is a person who willingly eats human flesh while being aware of it. So, not even the consumers who buy the meat from the factory can be called cannibals, since they don't know what they are eating, and they would be horrified if they found out.
