The Return Of Dracula

I love the Hammer-Dracula movies, but i hate "Dracula A.D.1972" and "The satanic rites of Dracula".I would love to see a new Dracula-movie who pics up where "Scars of dracula" (1970) left off.It would be great to see Christopher Lee as an old Count Dracula again. But thats only a dream!.

I know, Its a shame that Christopher Lee is Ashamed of Dracula these days

reply

He's not ashamed (else why would he have done a commentary for this and Dracula Prince of Darkness). I think he got fed up playing it as he felt the role had nothing to offer him due to the very limited screen time and the fact that, in his view, Dracula was written into a story rather than a story was written about Dracula. There was also a lot of argy bargy about his salary for movies 3-5 and constant threats that he would be written out in place of someone else (the original Taste the Blood screenplay didn't feature Dracula at all). This I think also soured things.

Thirty years later, however, he has mellowed a bit.

reply

Not too mellow, when it comes to Dracula. When the actor makes an appearance at conventions these days, it is made quite clear he will not sign any Dracula-related items.

reply

ah but i bet he would sign wicker man-related items??
he takes great pride in that movie. he acted in it for free!

reply

Back when he was Guest host on SNL he said nothing about playing Dracula.
He did however mention the very weak TMWTGG

I love them all except for Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires, but I agree it would be great to see Christopher Lee play Dracula one last time. Even if only for a cameo in something.

After seeing Paul's face when he's out cold in the carriage, wakes up and smiles like it's all some kind of elaborate joke, I think this one should be re-named Scars of Prankula!

The series got more ridiculous and campy over the years but I have a real soft spot for all 7 Hammer Dracula films.

As for Christopher Lee not signing Dracula-related items, he was doing so when I had the pleasure of meeting him. This was back in 2001 though.

May this legend of cinema rest in peace.
