What was the significance of the broth?

I recently caught this film on TV, and I guess my attention must have wandered at one point. There was a scene where we were told that it was vitally important that Sarah (Jenny Hanley) doesn't taste the broth of Dracula, but I couldn't quite figure out why. I kept waiting for it to be mentioned again, but it never was.

Maybe it was poisoned

...or drugged

....or it contained a small amount of his blood to start enthralling/vampirizing her to him?

....or it was mushroom based and who the hell wants that!!

"God Damn, dipsh!t Rodriguez, gypsy dildo...PUNKS!"

reply

I figured it was probably drugged to put her to sleep so she wouldn't be able to fight back/resist.

Maybe the sequel, Taste the Broth of Dracula, would have explained it?

Genuinely guffawed at this.
