MGS4 Song

Do you think the song used in this film for MGS4 was used well?

reply

I didn't even realize this was used in MGS4 until I got the MGS4 soundtrack. I've completed MGS4 twice, too o_O

I don't think the song makes much sense for MGS4. The lyrics specifically mention "Nicola and Bart" over and over. I can only think that Kojima thought Nicola and Bart are either Snake and Otacon, or Snake and Liquid, or Snake and The Boss.

Or maybe Big Boss and Boss???

reply

I thought it was brilliant, it was like a tribute to al of Metal Gear's main heroes (Big Boss, The Boss, Snake, Ocelot, Otacon, Eva) ALL of them judged unfairly at some point of their stories, and at the same time making great sacrifices on their own causes.

Is easier to believe in a pleasant fiction than a cruel reality

Love me some Joan Baez!

Hideo Kojima had at first intended MGS4 to end with Snake and Otacon being unjustly sentenced and executed as war criminals, mirroring the fates of Sacco and Vanzetti. However, the development team rejected the idea and the ending was changed completely. They still used the song, though.

When I saw the pictures (i.e. Statue of Liberty) on the IMDB page for this film I though 'My God, the entire MGS series is based on this film..?'

I thought the story of the film parallels MGS somewhat.

As for the song, it's really good, I've become addicted to it.

I was surprised to see Baez's song reprised again in the new French film starring Letitia Casta: Born in 68, which makes sense because it has all the young people on a commune after 1968 singing a Joan Baez song, quite obscure among her works, except for a Morricone fan like myself, who bought the soundtrack back when the film was released.

MGS1 - The Best is Yet to Come

MGS2 - Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday

MGS3 - Way to Fall

MGSPO - Calling to the Night

MGS4 - Here's to You

Every damn aspect of MGS4 makes me really sad. This song really tops it off.
