English language, does it exist?

I read the comment of another member who said he had watched this film in English from TV. To my knowledge the English language version is not even known to be existing. Can anyone confirm? And is it available anywhere?
Until now I've only seen the Italian version with English subtitles. Was the USA/UK release in English or subtitled originally?

reply

Where did you see the film? I saw it in South America a few years after it was released and never again. I'd love to see this film be released in the US too.
From what I remember, films can be proposed to be added to the Criterion Collection. Just access their webpage and request it, then they will consider. I'll request it as well. Please everyone who supports the film, do the same!

I have it on DVD, only with Italian language. I managed to see some clips in English so it does exist in English but still, I have no idea where I could find it.

A remastered DVD and Bluray has been released in Italy that includes the English soundtrack. A few very brief moments are in unsubtitled Italian, but nothing problematic. There are also plenty of extras, including original newsreel footage, but these are only in unsubtitled Italian. You can get it from Amazon.it.

Random question, but who else has landed here due to their interest in the use of the song 'Here's To You' in the trailer for Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes?

Does this Italian new release include English subtitles in the original Italian Audio or is it necessary to watch the English dubbed audio version when one's language is not Italian?

I would actually love an original Italian Audiowith subtitles in Spanish!

reply

This new Italian DVD release does not have any subtitles. It has the option of English or Italian audio. The English dubbed audio is of very high quality and is so good that it sounds as if the audio was originally recorded in English. Cyril Cusack and Milo O'Shea are both English speakers and are speaking with their own voices in the English dubbed audio. The original Italian audio is dubbed.

Belated thanks for your reply.

All enthusiasts of foreign classic films, enjoy to watch films in their original language. I personally do not like to watch dubbed films because much is lost in translation and in the case of Sacco and Vanzetti, it is not the protagonists´ voice nor of the other actors except for Cyril Cusack´s and Milo O'Shea´s, who have secondary parts.

I hope that in the near future there will be a new release or a revised version with subtitles in its original Italian language, as it is done with all good, likeable and well-known classic films. This is a big classic from the 70s. It has been shown in countries over the world. A new release in its original language with subtitles would be welcomed internationally. I look forward to it. I refuse to watch a dubbed version.
