I, too, needed eng subs. I understand a little Italian, but not enough.

Really want to see this, but without subs... :'( Okay, I know what the plot is...

I just saw the Movie on TV in English and thought it was shot in English, because some of conversations(between Italians) were in Italian and subtitled, and Italian actors spoke English when they didnt speak Italian with an Italian accent, and I hardly noticed it was dubbed over the original sound. You should better get that English version instead.

Hi Emreka,

In what country did you see ¨Sacco and Vanzetti¨ show on TV?

and Italian actors spoke English when they didnt speak Italian with an Italian accent, and I hardly noticed it was dubbed over the original sound.

Did you mean that the Italian actors spoke Italian but that it was dubbed to English and that you hardly noticed that? That´s what I would think since the original language of the film is in Italian and the DVD that was released in 2012 selling in Amazon.com, in Amazon.es (Spain) and Amazon.it (Italy) is in Italian but they add a version in English or in French (on the same DVD), as per below.

These are the details of the DVD sold by Amazon US, which is an import (from Brazil). The DVD is in its original language (Italian) with subtitles in several languages and in all regions as follows (sells for USD $33.69):

a Region Free / Special Worldwide Edition: ¨ORIGINAL AUDIO ORIGINAL ITALIAN DOLBY DIGITAL IN 5.1 AND 2.0/// SUBTITLE: ENGLISH, FRENCH, SPANISH, PORTUGUESE /// REMASTERIZED FROM ORIGINAL NEGATIVE//This a Region 0(All) DVD and it will play on any DVD players sold in the US or Canada. It will play also on any DVD players worldwide that plays NTSC format. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SXP4DLG/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=

Amazon US is also selling an Italian Import release sold by third party-sellers (not Amazon) in Blu-Ray/Region A/B/C, in Italian and English : http://www.amazon.com/Sacco-Vanzetti-Blu-Ray-Reg-A-Import/dp/B007BJUKQW/ref=pd_sim_sbs_74_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1HJE0MQKEB1QFPGQTRR6
Current Price 3 new from $20.39, 2 used from $29.99

Amazon US is also selling another earlier Italian release from 2012, in its original Italian language (with no English subtitles) as well as in English. I´d assume that this English version would be a translation of the original Italian version. It´s selling for USD $35.69 and it is in PAL/Region 0 DVD: it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada: http://www.amazon.com/Sacco-Vanzetti-Cyril-Cusack/dp/B008U0XSAG/ref=sr_1_2?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1437969387&sr=1-2&keywords=sacco+and+vanzetti&refinements=p_n_format_browse-bin%3A2650304011&pebp=1437969726442&perid=1M16Z1ZTAGD4054F3V7F

Amazon Spain is also selling the Blue-ray DVD in Italian and English for EUR 16,48.http://www.amazon.es/Sacco_e_Vanzetti-Italia-Blu-ray-Riccardo-Cucciolla/dp/B007BJUKQW/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1437969565&sr=1-1&keywords=Sacco+%26+Vanzetti

Amazon France is selling the Blue-ray DVD for $USG 9.98 in original Italian language and in French, not in English: http://www.amazon.fr/Sacco-Vanzetti-%C3%89dition-Collector-Volont%C3%A9/dp/B00NX43W6O/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1437976899&sr=1-1&keywords=sacco+et+vanzetti

I´ve seen this amazing film, ¨Sacco and Vanzetti,¨ when it was initially released worldwide in its original language (Italian) with subtitles. I would love to see it again in its original 1971 version and I am curious about the new 2012 release in English. I´d like to find out if the mixture of Italian voices of Italian actors with the English voices of the English speaking actors is a well-done job.

I don't really remember as it's been a long time but I probably meant that although the original language is listed as Italian, the version I saw (on Turkish TV) was in English with parts in Italian and English sound was in sync with their lips. This must be the original intent as it makes more sense. They're Italians in America, they speak English whit locals and Italian among themselves.

Later I had the same experience with Bertolucci's Novecento, the original language is listed as Italian, however the film was clearly shot in English as most of the lead actors are from English speaking countries. I've seen both Italian and English versions and Italian version is clearly dubbed, while English sound is genuine. This leads me to think this might be the case with Saco and Vanzetti.

I´ve briefly listened in you tube the court scenes of the original 1971 Italian film, which takes place with local judges from Boston-Massachussetts, and all that I hear is Italian even when the US local Americans speak. The mixture of English and Italian only happens in the English version of the film, not in the Italian original 1971 version.

And now I see your point. Your point is that in the English version of the 2012 released DVD, the English is not dubbed since it is in sync with their lips. If that is the case, then I was incorrect when I said it was ´dubbed´ English; it is not dubbed but a translation of the Italian version of the 1971 original DVD (I will have to edit my previous post to correct this). As for the Italian scenes in the English version of the DVD, I´d consider unnecessary to dubb Italian over English if the actors are the same actors as in the original Italian version, who already speak Italian. Why then dubb instead of just leaving it as it is and only present in English the scenes with the English actors? That´s something that I could answer when seeing the English release DVD.

I am curious to see how well the job was done mixing English voices corresponding to the local US Americans with the Italian voices of the Italian actors, as you describe it. If the job was well done, it is not a bad idea but it has be be a very well done job otherwise I rather see again the original 1971 film in its original Italian language, as I saw when the film was released in the 70s and I liked it so much.

I saw Eng subs for this movie at opensubtitles.

You watch the movie in English. Italian is a dub. Everyone is supposed to and speaks English.
Some lines are in Italian though, and subs are useful there.
