And a vampire wearing a mirror dress!

Pretty fair assessment. I'd maybe give it an 8 based on the lighting & photography. Very pretty actresses with talent besides.

reply

Talent and beauty, plus tight direction and a compelling story. I'm surprised I've never seen anyone in this cast in another film, because everyone here has what it takes to become a star in my book. 8/10 stars from me as well.

I've just watched Umbrella Entertainment's Region 4 DVD. Unfortunately this is one of the worst DVD transfers I've ever seen - grainy image, muddy colours, night scenes so murky that it's often impossible to see what's happening - did they throw the husband off the hotel balcony or off a cliff somewhere?. Since people have praised the cinematography I can't believe the film has always looked that awful.

That aside I found it to be another disappointing and over-rated "cult classic". The story is extremely slow-moving and the actors who played the newlyweds had no charisma whatsoever. Delphine Seyrig (the only cast member I'd heard of) gave the best performance, and Andrea Rau was darn hot - a pity she didn't have more scenes. 4/10.

Sorry to hear your DVD transfer was so bad. I've bought a lot of DVDs transferred from questionable source material. I watched this on good old VHS, and it was an excellent print in widescreen.

As I recall, they tossed the husband over the balcony, but it's been almost a year since I've seen this.

This is more of a mood piece than an conventional horror film, and I was totally in the mood. It calls to mind recent films such as "Let the Right One In."

reply

Yeah, it was definitely over the balcony.

A mood piece is a good description. I enjoyed it. Nice mix of art and exploitation.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

reply

I'm wondering if my Region 4 DVD (PAL) had been transferred from an NTSC source, which I understand is a recipe for disaster.

Yes, have seen the longer international version (director's cut??) and it is extremely slow moving and whilst Danielle Ouimet is very attractive, I'd agree that chemistry with John Karlen is minimal.

May be the US version actually does have better pacing.🐭

reply

Miss Canada's chemistry with John Karlen isn't the point, though, it's not even necessary to further the plot.

Stefan is gay or very, very confused about his attraction to women, period. Or did you miss the bit about his mother? He's either a gay hustler locked into some weird mommy/son roleplay, or Mother is an extremely peculiar looking woman.

Delphine Seyrig had amazing chemistry with everyone in the film, and she was the one who needed to have that chemistry. I honestly think that Danielle Ouimet has zero heat; she's boring to me and very unappealing. It's unfortunate that she was all Kumel could get, I wish he'd been able to land someone better. Hell, Karlen's co-star from Dark Shadows, Nancy Barrett would have been a better choice. At least she could act. She was also very attractive.

One of my favorite movies of all time.

One of your favourite films of all time, yet according to you it has a very boring, unappealing key actor. I guess that does reflect some people are easily pleased.🐭

Things is I don't want my Lesbian Vampires looking like obvious pron for pure titration. I want a seductive Vampiress who doesn't just Lust for women but also Loves them.

So I don't know if this film will disappoint me or not, but I do intend to try and get a hold of it.
