Classic war drama with a riveting scene about stamp collecting

I think I remember this movie way back when it was called Tobruk. Don't know why they change the title to Raid on Rommel. :) This version must be the director's cut because they added the scene where the British officer has a very animated conversation with Rommel himself about various issues of stamps from the South Pacific. Pure genius! I also like the scenes that were added with the Italian gal. It looked like they just grabbed her out of a cafe in Monte Carlo circa 1970 and put her in the movie.

Yes but she is quite gorgeous and it does take your mind off stamp collecting!

reply

Did you see her bio? She is French, and is now on or about 70 years old. I wonder what she looks like now.

reply

Just saw this film on my local "free" Pay Per View. One word can sum it up.. horrible.

Tobruk, on the other hand, is a fine film and much better than this ripoff which used much footage from the 1967 Rock Hudson film.

reply

I heard they also excised the nude dancing cuz it looked too real.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

reply

That hot woman is the best reason to watch this movie. What they should have done was less stolen Tobruk scenes and more of her.

reply

I completely agree. Everything excepting that woman was terrible. I can't for the life of me believe Hathaway directed that trash heap.

reply

I’ll have to watch this sometime!

reply

Well they kicked her out of the convoy by the end.
