which dvd is the best version?

well i want to buy this movie on dvd and i noticed that there is three diff dvd versions (search on amazon)

one just recently released and older version from a few years back, also one called laugh track presents,so which one do you think is the best to buy?

reply

absolutely buy the older version(euroshock collection).

Check the missing scene post here and you will note the new release from Geneon is missing a scene near the beginning. The Euroshock collection is definitely complete and is not to shabby in quality. Check my reply on the missing scene thread for more info.

As for the laugh track version that is a music documentary from 2003 and has nothing except the name in common.

reply

ACTUALLY... the laugh track version is a version of the film which is the same as the Euroshock collection. It has 3 menu options "Old Skool", which is the original version of the film with both missing scenes and the "New Kool" which has an infantile, unfunny and just plain offensive comedy commentary running over the film a la "What's Up Pussycat". This is a great option to get a version of the film in its entirety inexpensively. The Euroshock collection is out of print and running nearly $100 for used versions on the net.

Trust me though.... do NOT watch the Laugh Track "New Kool" version. It is the worst! (Menu option 3 are unrelated trailers from really bad films).

You can get the laugh track version for less than $2.00 at a lot of retailers on DVD.

Interesting. I didn't realize the laugh track version was what it was. Are the euroshock collection copies really going for a $100 on the net? I picked up a copy at Amoeba in Hollywood for $9.95 back in the summer. I happen to know they had at least twenty copies.

Just goes to show what suckers people are on the net, I guess.

reply

yeah i bought my copy (euroshock)for 10.95 at newbury comics in boston, massachusetts

reply

I tried to buy the Euroshock version at Amoeba in February 06. They didn't have it and only had an import soundtrack.

In the UK, the BBC now hold the rights to Psychomania - bizarrely!

They are planning on releasing a copy of Psychomania on DVD via the Cinema Club label.

There are no details regarding the specs, but they will probably use the same print for their TV broadcasts, which will be full frame, but a fairly good-looking copy. It will also probably be a bare-bones release.

OK, so the Image copy was presented in non-anamorphic 1.66:1 widescreen, but at least first two reels of the full-frame R2 copy will not be culled from sub-standard video copy...

I recently ordered the Severin dvd of PSYCHOMANIA www.severin-films.com and watched it last Friday (Christmas eve). I was not disappointed it is a well done uncut transfer. Sound quality also good. The extras are excellent and include several documentaries about the movie including RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, THE SOUND OF PSYCHOMANIA, RIDING FREE and the original theatrical trailer. This all region dvd does PSYCHOMANIA justice and is highly recommended.

That's the DVD I've got. I think Severin did a great job with it.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

The BFI are putting out a top-flight Blu-ray edition in September. I am involved with it in a VERY minor way. Can't say anything else, but this is going to be the last word on Psychomania.
