Odd role for Rock!

Strange that he made this very left of centre film while in the same year beginning work on McMillan & wife (which i always enjoyed).

Havent seen this movie but its now on my (long) list of sub-culture 70's movies i have to catch up with.

It was actually before McMillan & Wife. Pretty Maids was filmed in October 1970, and he started McMillan & Wife in July 1971. Maybe he wanted to go from one extreme to the other, but I agree, McMillan & Wife was very enjoyable.

He played a very convincing heterosexual.

I only got the chance to view this film this week during TCM's Angie Dickinson fest.
I don't think anyone has ever doubted his acting abilities. He delighted most audiences for many decades. And I'd say he always played a convincing heterosexual. He was brilliant in McMillan & Wife. Despite the formulaic early 70s fare, the chemistry between him & Susan St. James was palpable and made the program most enjoyable! Love St. James, too. Fell madly in starstruck love with her during those McMillan & Wife years. That Patty Hearst haircut the first season was divine.
