What do you make of the very end? (Spoiler)

They leave it ambiguous but it seems to me that it is suggested that the spirit has entered Norah (Shirley MacLaine). Anyone else get this, or am I reading too much into it?

No, that's what I gathered from the end as well. I can't think of any other reason she'd take the knife and stare at it in such a creepy way.

Tony Williams offers a lenghty explanation on his book Hearths Of Darkness: maybe the whole thing is about spiritual possession, or maybe Joel's dark side is using possession as a convenient excuse to kill his incestuous sister . As for the ending, does Tonio possess Norah? Or has she finally succumbed to her own dark side (incestuous desires for her own brother)? Some of the earlier scenes in the movie support the latter possibility: Visiting Joel's room Norah found a flick-knife. Accidentally opening it, she gazed at the blade in fascination, putting it quickly away when Sherry arrived. After the skating rink sequence, she put on her dark glasses, smiling, in close-up. Her appearance parallels Joel's when the audience first sees him completely possessed (a close-up revealing his twitching face before he smiles and puts on dark glasses while on his way to kill Erika).

It's the thing I love about this movie: it leaves the viewer to draw his own conclusions.

Interesting. There was definitely an undercurrent of incest but, for me, the movie is too cut and dried about the actual possession of Joel. Thus, I see that Norah has been possessed by Tonio at the end.

No,I agree with you on this. What I want to know is does she attack the cops or the kids and get shot then? If so, who is next to be possessed?
