What did you rate 'The Point' (1971)?

A boy with a round head can't fit in with the pointy-headed citizens of his town and is banished to the Pointless Forest where he meets a variety of wacky citizens like the Rock Man and the Three-Headed Man.

This charmingly animated cartoon looks and sounds very much like a product of the 1970s, especially with its sweet-natured Harry Nilsson songs. The first half-hour is fine; but the story bogs down when the boy gets to the forest, whose denizens speak in obscure pseudo-profundities and refuse to let the child finish a single sentence. The story picks back up when he goes back to town.

I rated it a 6. What did you rate it? And what do you think of it?

I gave it a solid 8/10. It may not be for everyone, but it's certainly for me.

The soundtrack is wonderful, the story has a few gaps but is consistently entertaining, and the message is inspiring. I think this is a film that would appeal to children and adults willing to suspend their cynicism in pursuit of an idealistic dream. Without the soundtrack, this film would feel a bit empty, but what a soundtrack Harry Nilsson gave us! How I miss that man.
