I loved it too... don't know why people have such a hard time with something simple and beautiful

Yep, this is the thread I want to post in. :)

Oblio is probably the nicest character ever created on film. The songs are incredible, and if you listen hard to the lyrics they are pretty profound (especially the teacup song). This film moves me to tears every time, and it's one of those preciously-guarded secret jewels that I will never attempt to over-analyze for fear its sweet brilliance might crumble.

It was on at Christmas in the UK for several years in a row, I seem to remember. Maybe that's the reason for my uncritical loyalty: it reminds me of carefree family warmth. But now, as an adult, having discovered the DVD and watched it again a few times, I can see the other layers in it. Some of them meaningful, others... well, "pointless" - if you'll pardon the word - but all enjoyable.

I am hoping my five-year-old son will agree to watch it soon. He has refused on a whim, but you know what kids are like: he'll come around. I'm not going to force him, of course. Even if he's my age before he does, it will still be worth it.

I vote we all keep very, very quiet about this film. If we make too much noise someone will hear us, abscond with it and remake it. That would be a shame.

Peace.

Go ahead! Analyze away! It won't crumble... in fact, the deeper you go, the stronger it becomes.

It's a real chestnut from my childhood and remains a staple in my adulthood. I think this film will carry me into my golden years, which hopefully are still a long time away.
