Watered Down?

Did anybody think this was a slightly watered down version of the TV series?

I'm thinking in particular of the portrayal of Dennis as a sort of "nature Boy"/idiot savant, as opposed to the plain "idiot" he is in the TV series.

My body makes no moan
But sings on:
All things remain in God.

I'm sorry but in my opinion that extended the character rather than watering it down.
