This movie is a lot of fun and Matthau proves to be a comic genius but he also receives strong, solid support from his three leading ladies, Maureen Stapleton, Barbara Harris, and Lee Grant. And yes, the final segment with Grant is the best...roll on the floor hilarious.
Thanks for the remembrance of these three ladies, ijones. I couldn't ever forget Barbara Harris' performance especially.
I also remember seeing the Twin Towers in this film, from Matthau's window. They had just been built, and I'm quite certain many of the floors were not yet occupied at the time of this motion picture's filming.
It's nice to know someone else has posted on this message board about the great Walter Matthau. (Although I think the role of 'Mr. Wilson', on "Dennis the Menace" was one of his greatest.... this film is right up there with it.)
Thank you so much for acknowledging Barbara Harris. I think she is one of the most underrated and unappreciated actresses in the business...the woman has never given a bad performance in her life and has raised the quality of many films with her presence alone. Great actress.
Neil Simon puts together a great script and this is real comedy; Matthau and Harris are a real hoot in this film, and hold the scenes together with their riotous humor! I love it.
Roy Hubley:Well if she doesn't show up,who's gonna look at you?
I couldn't agree more, this film is a classic. I loved Matthau & Harris together but I think the best one is with Matthau & Lee Grant, that one had me in stitches haha!
