Will Smith to remake. Good choice?

Not sure he would fit the role myself. Who would you choose?

reply

George Clooney

reply

Wow yes. Come to think of it he is perfect for the role if not just a little tt old. However, I hear will smith may have bagged it. He would be hopeless.

Will Smith is quite possibly the worst casting suggestion for any remake, ever.

I'd go with Ben Affleck.

... and that was the second time I got crabs.

reply

No, no and hell no.. Affleck just doesn't have the acting chops... If it has to be done (and I cry shame).... it should be Hugh Jackman... vulnerable, charming, slightly caddish and the right age

reply

i think clarck gable will fit

Robert Vaughn as Dave Garver and William Shatner as the obsessive fan.

reply

I don't think Will is starring in it, I just read that the Dave Garner character will be around 28 years old.

I'd like to see a young actor in the vein of James Franco, Brandon Routh, or even Milo Ventimiglia.

If Robert Downey Junior was younger though, he would be perfect in a role like this.

reply

Remakes suck. Besides, wasn't the film already remade as "Fatal Attraction"? I am greatly disappointed.

Even Affleck is better than Will Smith.

reply

Will Smith is a smug, jug-eared, no-talent. I'd be rooting for the psycho-girl.

Please put some dashes above your sig line so I won't think it's part of your dumb post.

reply

Holy crap, you said it.

Go, Evelyn, GO!

The only thing that could make it worse would be if Smith would somehow shoehorn his snotty, no-talent son into the picture somewhere. Ugh.

reply

Me too! I cannot stand Will Smith or his creepy son.

reply

WILL SMITH? WILL SMITH? HELLLLLLLL TO THE NAW! I can see Brad Pitt maybe. It has to be someone smooth & laid-back yet rugged as Clint Eastwood. Definitely not the Fresh Prince of Belaire. Who could they possible cast as the girl opposite Will Smith? Oh, I got it. That woman that plays New York on I Love New York! lol. Ok. Let me stop. But no. Not Will Smith.

reply

Will Smith? - I like Will, but I can't see him in that role - I like The Cloony/Jackman suggestions.

I don't know about a remake of this movie. - If they did remake it - they'd have to use a different title.

I mean - what DJ still plays Misty?

The lead most likely would have a different profession all together.

<< I mean - what DJ still plays Misty? >>

I don't think DJs were playing Misty on their own in the 1970's, either. It's a song associated with the late 1950s....and maybe the 1960's. (Sarah Vaughn might have done her cover version then?) I think David's only playing it because a caller requested it (?)

(In a remake, I wonder if the caller will request "Oops, I Did It Again," or something SLIGHTLY closer to the times?)

I can see Will Smith playing Dave Garver, if Hollywood is desperate enough...

What happened to originality? :-(

reply

I'd accept Will Smith reluctantly, probably, only to have him pleasantly surprise me by surpassing my incredibly low expectations.

Honestly, though -- I toyed with the idea of scripting a "Play Misty" remake a couple years back. Normally, I'm not that fond of remakes, but I thought there was some room for expansion in the original script -- a little more suspense, a more-fleshed out ending than the anticlimactic one we were treated too. Anyway, someone mentioned Hugh Jackman, who I think would be terrific -- when I first saw this movie a few years ago, the young lady I was dating remarked that she thought Eastwood kind of resembled Jackman, and I think he's the right level of cool to inhabit the role.

I'd also like to throw out there Thomas Jane, of "The Mist" and, yes, "The Punisher". He's laconic and nondescript enough, but can be fantastic when called to action (I'm thinking of his performance in "The Mist" here, where he has several great steely moments). And I've heard that he's actually starring in a hard-boiled noir-style film, which, if done correctly, would provide him with some level of experience for this style of film.

And, of course, I like the Robert Downey Jr. suggestions.

The real question, though: who plays Evelyn??

reply

>when I first saw this movie a few years ago, the young lady I was dating remarked that she thought Eastwood kind of resembled Jackman

About time I heard somebody else say that! When I (sort of) watched X-Men, I thought he was the image of Rowdy Yates and I've never found anyone to agree with me. I finally feel vindicated, so abundant thanks to your young lady!

On the main point, I agree with whoever said the character doesn't really require a specialized actor. It can pretty much be whatever the artist brings to it. Smith could make it as well as anyone.

I don't, however, think he'd be at all good for Dowd in the Harvey remake, for which he's apparently being considered. I think it's a shame to redo Harvey but if it must be done, the new Dowd needs to be able to convey brilliant innocence as Stewart did. I don't believe that's Smith's forte at all. Hanks is being considered, too, which is much more seeable but not very creative casting. I think it could be a great vehicle for Sandler. Don't write that off too quickly! - think about it...

reply

Thomas Jane's costar from Boogie Nights, Heather Graham, would be a good choice for Evelyn.

reply

God i hope not!! Will Smith has to be about the worse actor in movies right now, he has zero talent and has no business touching any of "Clint's" work. Let him do a sequal to I,Suck!!
