Was this shown on Ch4 as part of their banned season years ago?

If I remember rightly, it's very long, tho colourful, with some crazy scenes of the main character bedding lots women, running down a busy street naked, and even kissing another man. Am I right in thinking that the director went to prison for this? I'd love to see this again!

It wasn't shown as part of the official Banned Season (which was in 1991, though they had a couple of loosely 'banned' themed-seasons throughout the 90s after that). It was shown during the late spring/early summer months of 1993 - don't ask me why I know that, I just have a kind of photographic memory for these kinds of things from my child(teenager)hood. I have a vague recollection that the screening was 'tied in' with some kind of documentary or mini-season to do with Yugoslavia, or the then-recent political reform/revolution in Eastern Europe in general.

I don't remember the guy running down the street naked or kissing another guy - which is funny, since as a burgeoning gay teen looking for w--- material wherever I could get it, it would have been right up my alley and so I would have thought stuck in my mind - but I do remember at some point some guy talking directly to camera (VT) and then standing up at the end with nothing but his dick and bush in frame for several seconds.

no, he didn't go to prison.
his "punishment" was finishing university later. the director went to prison. the reason was not nude or gay kissing scenes. the reason was putting communist leader tito and partisans in the same reference as nazi regime.

i watched the whole film, i could say the reason was also religion - food blessing by a priest was not to be shown in communist films of that time, also filming the church from inside. also, there is a film projected of man masturbating near the child playing unaware of it, scene of sex also. looking in perspective today, this might also be a reason to be banned.
