I miss safari jackets and submachine guns.

Say what you will about the crushed velvet smoking jackets I think that nothing beats the safari jacket/aviator sunglasses/pink salmon shirt with the Smith & Wesson Model 76 submachine gun look. Now that was a classic. The man had style.

reply

LMFAO! Must agree, you gotta love Charlton Heston sportin that safari jacket and subgun..

reply

He was natty. Plus he was a trend setter for the hip-hoppers and gangstas. Check out that sweat suit. The man was ahead of his time.

Readiness is all.

Some of the styles in the old movies still look sharp. Steve McQueen looked pretty good in the turtle neck sweater and sports jacked combo that he wore in Bullitt.

Yeah, but sometimes I look at movies from the 60's and 70's and I'm like.."plaid, on a grown man not chopping down trees? When did that ever look good?"

Yes I can't argue with that. Oh well. Back in 1984/85 I knew that I looked damn good in my parachute pants. Yep. I found a picture taken of me back in 1984 wearing those pants along with my semi-mullet. Well you're only sixteen once in your life.

reply

I didn't mind the plaid jackets as much as plaid pants. There was something odd about seeing a man in plaid pants.

reply

Personally I liked the plaid business suit look. Whoa!

Winston you ol' bastard

The jumpsuit and Army hat was the oddest choice. I thought he should have been in a white colored outfit for his final "crucifixion". It would have been much more powerful I think.

what about the giant sized infrared scope he had when he shot at the mutants from his balcony? it was like size of a basketball on top of that rifle. pretty funny. they seemed to love submachine guns back then. uzi's were popular as the bad ass gun. nowadays it's all "assault rifles"

reply

It was 1975 and the IR scope was probably a miniature CRT display, which is why it was so huge. It wasn't "night vision", it was basically an infrared camera/display.

And ironically, the M-16 assault rifle predates the S&W Model 76 submachine gun.

reply

Captain Pendant weighing in. True enough. However the Model 76 is basically an Americanized version of the Swedish Carl Gustav M45 SMG (with enough engineering changes to avoid running afoul of the lawyers) which was introduced in 1945.

reply

You're not wrong, but I'll see your Captain Pendant and raise it to Admiral Pendant levels and say it was all just cribbed from Nazi MP40s and Soviet PPSh-43s.

reply

No argument from me. Just like the U.S. M3 "grease gun" was inspired by the STEN and the German design.
