'... until the crows pecked their eyes out'

How realistic would this be? Is it plausible for crows to eat the post-mortem eyes of hanged bodies?

Insult to injury?

If they starved the birds... They'd eat anything.

I doubt they were domesticated birds though. Maybe the evil nature of the knights had a psychological effect on the crows... crows are very intelligent.

Crows are serious scavengers, and in places like Tokyo there are flocks of them. They'll tear into bags of garbage here if they're not covered with netting or otherwise protected. So I'd have to say "yes" to the munching on eyes possibility. Plus it just sounds cool.

Depends on if they had bags over their heads. If not, then absolutely. Why not? Crows are scavengers, part of the clean up crew of nature. You can find them picking at roadkill and the like all the time. A corpse swinging on a tree is just as good a meal to them as a rabbit crushed under a tire. Hell, they'll even attack wounded animals, speed the process along.

There are many flaws in zombie movies, but the idea of a bird pecking out a corpse's eyes isn't one of them. Not that they really needed to explain what happened to their eyes. Corpses dead since the 13th century surely wouldn't have their eyes left anyway.

It's actually common for crows and ravens to eat eyes out of dead bodies.
