MGM owns the rights last I heard. And I heard they have the full 2 hour plus directors cut (which purportedly makes more sense). I also know they got it all together a few years ago...and then nothing. What's the holdup? Also I want to see "House of.." out too.
shareWarners owns the rights to both Dark Shadows movies, as well as virtually everything else in the pre-1986 MGM library.
shareAccording to "The Dark Shadows Almanac", a 129 minute version of the film exists, but the soundtrack for the cut footage has been destroyed. If a restored version is being prepared, the surviving actors will need to redub their lines, and a good imitator will have to be found to stand in for the late Grayson Hall. Per the book (published in 2000) the actors were all enthusiastic about doing this, so let's keep our fingers crossed. (Let's bear in mind that the actors are now some 35 years older and their voices may sound a bit different...)
I heard it was actually done a few years ago! Maybe Warner Bros. will release it someday.
shareI actually have both on VHS that I taped off of TV about 14 years ago. I played the tape a few years ago and it still worked but I haven't tried it lately. I should check it out and see if I notice what channel I taped it from.
I would definitely buy an uncut version of the DVD.
