Is Johnny Depp really doing a remake of The Night Stalker?

I heard he bought the rights to the character or original story and is either going to produce or star as Kolchak.

Any truth to this? Is it actually in development?

Yes. Edgar Wright of SHAUN OF THE DEAD is set to direct and Depp, of course, will play Kolchak.

How ironic that Dan Curtis produced this film. He already re-made Dark Shadows, so is he going to remake everything Dan Curtis ever made now?

enought of these idiotic parodies!!!
do they really think by doing this they are paying homage to dark shadows and Kolchak? is it going to be kolchak in his 60's suit in modern times wondering in amazement over cell phones and Ipads?

I am in total agreement that these films or indeed almost everything that is being remade should not be.
Is there any weblinks that confirm or deny these rumours or are they just hearsay?

If they do remake it, I really hope it fits in with todays society. Depp would make a great Kolchak and the vampire can be both a minority and a transgender woman, since Kolchak would be a white person
