Idea for a new TV movie

I'll be the first to say, and probably not alone since this is the 1972 board and all, that the new series they tried was crap. Would it have been more tolerable if they had just left all Kolchak connections alone? Who can say? Anyway, I was re-watching this creepy little gem last week and I just thought it wouldn't be so bad to make another television movie.

Plot: Kolchak's girlfriend at the end of the 72 version gets run out of town, but when you watch that scene with our man Carl proposing marriage she seems a little hesitant. It was always my thought that she was sort of willing to leave town since the commitment frightened her. On top of that, what if she had been pregnant? So following that end she left town, gave birth to a son, and Carl went about his antics. By the time the son has grown up, knows who his father is, loathe shim for being such a black spot on his career, and fights tooth and nail to become a newsman “talking head” just to spite his father.

The son, still the chip off the block, remains a bit of a scoundrel at heart with a healthy contempt for authority. After a rather embarrassing moment on what he thought was off the record and off live broadcast he is fired from his cushy news job, his wife leaves him, and the only two things he has left to his name are a storage locker and an old yellow mustang he’s been procrastinating fixing up and now is rusting away in his landlords yard. In the storage locker he finds an old junky block tape recorder, weathered seersucker, and an old straw hat which e reluctantly dons. His old partner at the news firm takes pity on him and gets him a job at an independent news agency.

From there on you could create a number of different plots for a good television movie. I have a pretty good plot in mind but this is the internet after all. I just miss the style of the old show and wish they had gotten it right with the remade one. What all do you think of this? Know anyone? Just joking…but seriously.

I also have an idea for a new movie/TV show. A woman comes to a town or city for a funeral. Carol Lynley comes up to her and the woman calls her "mom". There is tension between them. Her mother tells her she should be proud of her father because he tried to stand up for what was true. The woman shows by her gestures that she does not like what was said.

Later we see the woman at a hotel. Her mother visits her, handing her a tape recorder and several tapes. She tells her daughter that she has been told her mother had to keep silent and not contact her father to protect all of them and that she will tell her why if she wants to hear that. Then she leaves.

The woman takes out of her suitcase a picture and puts it on the night stand. She puts in one of the tapes and it plays what we hear at the beginning of this movie. She looks at the picture. We see it is Carl, so we also know her mother is Gail Foster. She slightly smiles. This opens the way for one or more TV movies or a TV series where she takes up the work her father did. The twist? She is not so easily convinced to keep silent and a lot of times she wins.
