Fall of Eagles will give you much further insight to the Romanovs along with all the other royal houses of the First World War. A lot of back story to these people, well done, excellent cast, as good as Nicholas and Alexander.

While some Fall of Eagles episodes drag, overall it's a fine series, with a unique take on its subject from other movies/mini-series. I particularly enjoyed the fact that its portrayal of N&A wasn't misdirectedly sympathetic, but presented them as the hopelessly out-of-touch monarchs they were. That said, Gayle Hunnicut's performance as the imperious, neurotic Alexandra is one-dimensional and grating.
I'm a BIG fan of Fall of Eagles. I watch it once a year. What a cast--Patrick Stewart as Lenin and Curt Jurgens as Bismarck just to name two.
