Hydrangeas in the lobby???

My Italian neighbor had advised me not to plant these flowers, because he said in Italy, they represent bad luck,

possibly death.

Anyone know of this?

Visconti had large planters filled with hydrangeas in the reading area/lobby of the hotel.

Strange???
