One of the best Canadian films...

...and only this post to discuss it?
I guess it's not that well known/liked by the general public.

Is there an affordable DVD for this? I can only see ones that are terribly expensive...

I saw the film on TCM and must say frankly that I found it greatly overrated. It's plotless to a fault, and ultimately has no real central character. I'm Canadian and have a strong attachment to the best of Canadian cinema in both languagues. I can't fathom why this film merits inclusion. It's just a series of things happening on the screen, and then it ends.

You must be a fan of The Red Violin.

This was pretty boring. We watched the entire thing hoping it would get better or go somewhere.

I just recently stumbled upon the Criterion release at my public library and decided to give the film a shot. What a pleasant surprise. This is a gorgeous coming of age story, and Jacques Gagnon is a revelation.
