worst Cassavetes i have seen so far [german dub]

maybe its good to tell you at first, that i really adore Cassavetes' films.

i gave 3 of his films a rating of 9,
though i have to re-watch 2 of them
and maybe they will get even a 10 at last
(Shadows, Woman Influence, Love Streams)

and one of them i gave an 8 (Opening Night)

this one here, minnie & maus, gets just a 6
or maybe even a 5, cause i was really DISAPPOINTED!

if you like cassavetes you have to like characters in problematic situations,
characters which are not acting always that fine,
this is not a problem,
but in this movie i hated the characters.

all the men she met were horrible and exhausting.
even mauskowitz is a man i would run away.
he kidnapped her!
he is stupid and simple!
he is blackmailing her by saying he will kill himself.
he is just a plane psycho!
and he is aggressive.
one "no-go" in his behavior follows the next.

no way she will fall in love with him
and even if someone believes her love to him,
this "romance" is far from being a beautiful one,
as some have mentioned.

i didn't believe the love story here, not a minute!
Rowlands is an amazing actress, maybe the best i have ever seen,
but even she was just mediocre in this role,
cause the script wasn't that good.
the characters were just not believable during interactions.

cassavetes' films are not easy "stuff",
but even though some here have written it is the most "light-heated" of his films,
i have to disagree with this opinion.

for me this was much more heavy than the real tough films of him,
cause i hated the characters from the beginning
and the director forced me to watch just unsympathetic characters.

the first guy in the cafe, which Mauskowitz met, and who has eaten his hot dog,
the rendezvous of minnie,
and even though i liked mauskowitz charisma and face, who is for sure a nice, cute and funny guy in reality,
was a horrible character.

for me this was much harder to watch than "Woman under influence", which goes really deep...
but this one was fascinating in so many ways

at the end i have to confess that i have seen the film in german synchronization (dub),
which was not a good decision but i wasn't able to get it in english.
(i ve seen all other films made by him in english).
i know, that can be a reason, but just if you don't know it,
german synchronizations (dubs) are always really good, so there are not many films which got really ruined by the dubbing.

anyway... if you are from a german speaking country... try to get it in english!
maybe it is much better with original voices,
though i really don't believe this was the reason why i haven't liked it.

it was the whole atmosphere, the characters, what they do, not just what they say...

sorry for all the Minnie and Mauskowitz-Fans, but i think this is one of the worst Cassavetes films,
though i have just seen 5 or 6 right now.

i would NOT recommend to watch this one

OT: by the way, i ve found the names Minnie and Mauskowitz in the end credits of Opening Night,
so they are real characters in Cassavetes life - or better: real names of someone he knows in reality.
i can't remember if it was just one person, maybe one of his team members had the name Minnie Mauskowitz...
and it were not 2 persons...
i have to re-watch the credits again
