Anyone else had this problem with this movie?

I could barely make out what the actors are saying. The dialogue sounded so quiet and muffled. Even worse, I got a copy of the film from the Criterion Collection, so there were no subtitles on the DVD. So I turned it off within 15 minutes.

Thankfully though, I wound up giving the film another shot and rented it off YouTube. I loved it. It's an amazing film... as long as you have the subtitles on. LOL

The Criterion DVD has subtitles.

That’s an issue I am having right now. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this movie. So I want to watch.

But I can’t find a version with subtitles. And if I watch without subtitles, I can’t make out what they are saying, no matter how high I turn the volume

I watched the Criterion blu-ray last night, with the subtitles on.

I didn’t like it at all. I cannot understand why so many people seem to think it is a masterpiece.
