A filming location question

The final scene sure looks like it was shot in the bed of a drained reservoir. I saw that it was filmed in Spain. Does anyone know exactly where that was.

I am sorry that I can't answer your question. Perhaps the location was a drained reservoir bed, or maybe a huge tidal flat (I doubt it).

My biggest gripe with this film, and the factor that kills it for me - is simply the terrible idea of filming it in Spain. Before I knew it was Spain, I guessed it, from the lousy barren hills to the scanty vegetation with its stumpy, wimpy pine trees. The film is supposed to take place in the Pacific Northwest and places East, on the way to the East Coast with beaver pelts. It doesn't look like the American or Canadian Northwest, except for the snow and some of the highest mountains. With its lack of towering fir, cedar, pine forests and authentic-looking semi-arid areas such as Montana, the film looks as if it was filmed in a burned-off locale where the flora was just barely beginning to make a comeback.

A damn poor idea, and damn poor execution. A Western shot in Spain. Which works for desert Westerns such as the Sergio Leone productions, but utterly fails in depicting the Pacific Northwest frontier. ... Not to mention the Indians, who, iirc, were supposed to be "Rees" or Arikaras, who were speaking nothing but Lakota (Sioux). Jesus, what a sorry mess.
