The ending (spoilers obv)

A bit confused. At the final scene of the autopsy, when the scalpel was thrust into his heart and his friend started screaming, did she realize that he was actually, up until that moment, alive? or was she just screaming because the realization that he was dead finally hit her?

Actually, even in the French audio commentary (In perfect french by M. Lado), he does not explain it, so… I guess it will remain a mystery !

She sees his hand move.

I took from it that she was aware of what the cult was doing (hence her presence at all), but was silently hoping that he would overcome it because she loved him. When the scalpel went through his heart, that was the end of her crush. Hence, the screaming.

His friend didn't strike me as particularly innocent; in fact, it wouldn't surprise me if she was the one who got his girlfriend kidnapped in the first place because she showed such jealousy and resentment for her at the party. When her crush got a bit too close to unraveling the mystery, that's when he got drugged and by that point, it was outside of her hands and she couldn't save him without turning against the cult that had the upperhand. So, she had to sit on the sidelines literally in hopes that he could survive the conspiracy somehow.

I admit though I had a hard time following this one so I could be wrong. I blame the lack of subtitles on the DVD I watched for that, but I *think* I understood the story as they were trying to tell it.
