LOL... 'Strange Love'?

Was I the only one that laughed out loud when that music started. And even more when they played it for the second time? It was just so rediculously corny.

I first saw this in a downtown theater during its American first-run release, most of the audience was African-American, & the dude sitting to the right of me & my friend positively HOWLED when the song kicked-in where it did (won't say where or what was going on in the plot at that time, but YOU know!). The Director (Jimmy Sangster) remarks about it on the excellent DVD by Anchor Bay- & certain parties' reactions to it. Myself, I thought it definitely HURT the movie, coming in where it did, but it was NOT a terrible song, just entirely inappropriate where it was inserted (probably should've been run during the opening credits, or maybe end credits). There was some sort of inclusion of a "tune" in almost EVERY movie made (from what era-to-when I'm not entirely sure) that supposedly was going to make everyone go out & buy the "title tune" or soundtrack, thus making the movie (& studio, artists, etc.) more money than just from box-office receipts. This boo-boo certainly didn't help this movie, but hopefully made a positive case for dropping melodies from Vampire flicks! The other really dumb thing was relatively high production values EXCEPT for the obvious dummy at the end. But this is STILL my favorite Vampire movie ever, thanks to the mesmerizing Miss Stensgaard.

Books and fans follow Sangster's lead in interpreting the song as a terrible lapse -- and without the song would have been better -- but songs similar to that were in movies _all the time_ back then, good movies.

I thought it was interesting how Hammer included this lullaby in "Lust For A Vampire." I don't think its inclusion hurt or cheapened the film. It reminded me of how "Rosemary's Baby" began with Mia Farrow doing "Lullaby From Rosemary's Baby."

I saw the film (uncut) on video years ago. I personally found the film stupid and deadly dull with some horrible acting (I don't care how beautiful Yvette was--she couldn't act!) I was dozing off then the song came on and I woke up quickly! I thought I was asleep and dreaming, at first, but then I realized I wasn't and I broke up completely! It was SO incredibly silly and out of place! I actually rewound the tape to see (and hear) it again! Seriously...what was Hammer THINKING??? I realize they were in bad financial trouble at the time but adding a SONG to a vampire film was a stupid idea! As a previous poster said--it was the most horrible thing in the movie:)

I quite liked the song, too.

It may seem a little bit trite these days, but it was quite acceptable (to me) back in 1971.

I like to watch "The Vampire Lovers" and "Lust for a Vampire" as a double bill....

I loved the song!It was such an oddity to hear it suddenly ....and i liked the way the orchestral score was interwoven around the song and reprised the lyrics again at the end.I liked it's originality and quirkiness!
