'One of the Worst Films Ever Made'?

Does anyone know why Ralph Bates was reported as saying that this was "One of the worst films ever made"?

I think he played a good part, as Giles Barton....considering that the producers wanted Peter Cushing to do it, initially.

The story was good, the other actors were great, the costumes, atmosphere, and music were all up to scratch.......and it is one of my personal favourites.

So, I wonder why Ralph Bates hated it so much?????

Thank you to anyone who can answer my question.

I believe he said it was his least favorite film he worked on.

Hi there, Repoman.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you have any idea WHY he thought that it was his least-favourite film that he worked on?

(So, my original question still stands....)

Perhaps he said that because he hated the film. I have to agree--its one of Hammers worst. Also he was called in at the last moment and some actors don't like that. Ingrid Pitt also turned down the film because she thought the script was terrible.
