The Best

In my opinion, this is Fulci's best work. I was just wondering if anyone else agrees with me, but not many people have checked out this movie I see.

This is a very underrated film, original and clever. I don't know if it's Fulci's best,I think I prefer Don't Torture A Duckling and House By The Cemetery to it,but it's a quality film nonetheless. Fulci is so underated,he made a few poor films but most of his work has it's interest. A shame the DVD of this film is so weak {a better, widescreen transfer for the cut US version than the full Italian version....O well}.

i saw a trailer of this film on zombie dvd. The trailer made the film seem like an art film. My question is is there gore and is it worth it?

reply

It has taken nearly forever to come out here in the States only to get a cropped version whose source was an old video. I don't think I'll be able to have an informed opinion based on a dvd that has very low production values.

Any Mike Patton fans should be farmiliar with this title. It has been a huge inspiration on him. Ennio Morricones soundtrack to the film is absolutely priceless. The music alone helps advance the atmosphere of the movie greatly...

A LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN is one of Fulci's best, but I believe that DON'T TORTURE A DUCKLING is much better.

reply

It is one of Fulci's best probably my favorite followed closely by City of the Living Dead. Fulci was one of the greatest.

I also thought that until I saw his real masterpiece. Seven Notes in Black (1977)!
What a wonderful movie. Now Lizard is my second favorite .

I's a very good film, but I prefer DON'T TORTURE A DUCKLING, MURDER IN THE TUNE OF SEVEN BLACK NOTES, FOUR OF THE APOCALYPSE and BEATRICE CENCI to it.

One should judge a man mainly from his depravities.Virtues can be faked.Depravities are real.Kinski

Yup, it's definately among Fulci's best. A much maligned director, that has often been dismissed as an incompetent hack who couldn't direct traffic, "Lizard.." proves the opposite. I still need to see "Duckling", but this is up there in my top5, neatly sandwiched between "Zombi 2" and "The Beyond".

Pain is weakness leaving the body.

I still need to see this but I'd say his best is Don't Torture a Duckling. I also rate City of the Living Dead highly. Fulci's best work lies in the Giallo genre.

What does everyone think of Fulci's Western/Italian Cop Film output?

I think The Beyond is his masterpiece, despite the convulted plot. Frankly, I think people focus too much on the gore in his movies and ignore the other merits. His movies were technically very proficient. The cinematography, lighting and music were all excellent, giving his films an atmosphere that was second to none. This is especially evident in The Beyond.

I saw Four of the Apocalypse and thought it was pretty good. It proved that Fulci could also direct spaghetti westerns in addition to horror and giallo.

It´s great, and possibly Fulci´s best, technically speaking. That being said, my favorite Fulci film is a tie between Seven Notes in Black and The Beyond.

The theater is like a faithful wife. The film is the great adventure, the costly, exacting mistress
