A weaker effort

I liked duckling more... but this was a solid giallo flick imo

There's nothing "routine" about this film. It established much of what was to follow in the gialli that was to follow, and was about as influential as Bava's BLOOD AND BLACK LACE and Argento's THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE. Granted, horror fans who saw subsequently made gialli prior to watching this one might have found it predictable because it was so stolen from, but in its day it blazed new terrain, both narratively and stylistically. Personally, I believe it to be Fulci's best film.
