SPOILERS - ESPECIALLY IF YOU'VE BEEN WAITING 35 YEARS FOR THIS FILM TO FALL INTO YOUR LAP.

This was an odd film.

There was no explanation at all about McDowell's condition, he had a bruise, fell ill and ended up in a wheelchair.

I often feel that some films would benefit from a darker ending but this is an exception.

I think the film needed a happy ending, the sudden death of the Newman character seemed needless and out of place.

I believe the film would have worked better as a touching, feel-good romantic story and it isn't very often I say that about films.

It must have been polio, even though Bruce dismisses it as 'last years disease'.

More than anything Jill teaches Bruce to enjoy life again, and although they fall in love her death probably adds to Bruce's stoicism. It's sad when she dies and he's obviously devestated, but he'll get through it. The Bruce of today won't be bitter and twisted, he'll be hard as nails. It's also another example of how cruel life can be, something we can all relate to.

Bruse says it isn't polio, which he mentioned was eradicated by "eating lumps of sugar." He is referring to the vaccine that was given on cubes of sugar back then. Besides, if it was polio he certainly wouldn't have been a ward with other patients, he'd have been in isolation.

I've been waiting 35 years to watch this. Thanks for telling me what happens.

Then you should have seen it at the cinema. If you couldn't do that, how about buying it on VHS like I did?

How long are you prepared to wait for something to happen before deciding to actually try and make it happen?

I agree with your remarks...how about a 'spoilers' warning though ?

I can put a spoilers warning on there for you now if you like but in your case the horse has bolted, hasn't it?
