Broadway bomb?

This play bombed on Broadway only playing 7 performances! That's less than a one week run. How did they ever get to make a movie out of a failed Broadway play? Barbara Cook & Elliot Gould starred in the stage version.

It did well in England and also had a good off Broadway run later on.
