Its been like 3 or 4 years since I watch this movie on the Fox Movie channel. I do remember the part where Patsy brings her new boyfriend play by Elliot Gould over for dinner and the parents meet him. Did watch the whole thing. The confussing part of the movie is when he interviewing his father and ask him abunch of questions and ask him if he has drank milk from a bottle or has he been brestfeed? I just don't get that part of the movie.
No problem. It helps to have read the many Jules Feiffer comic strip published over the years in The Village Voice (NYC). Patsy is refusing to give up on her latest reclamation job, especially now the she's married him. She sends him home with the questionnaire, as twere going back to the manufacturer for tech support. Jules Feiffer is definitely an acquired taste, but a delight in the way his characters will spill out all their foibles and and insecurities, in dialog far more sophisticated than they would ever dream of.
His parents are great at answering question, not from the required personal experience but from summaries of theory from books they've read.
If your library has any of the Feiffer cartoon books, spend an afternoon with them. Enjoy.
It was a big psychological debate. The idea was that "bottle babies' who were never breast fed would grow up to be neurotic, due to the lack of the nurturing mother, etc.
Woody Allen had a one-liner: "I was breast fed from falsies."
