i could watch the donald sutherland scene over and over again

so many great scenes in this film but that's one of my faves. i could watch a whole movie with that character.

I'm with you brother.

It's hard to believe that Sutherland played Klute that same year.

There, daddy, do I get a gold star?

reply

I cast my vote too... I love that monologue... and what about his "accent"? He seemed to pick a voice for that character? I've never heard him use before?

I let out a squeal of delight every time Donald Sutherland unexpectedly pops up in a film. He is simply the best. I think I've seen this particular scene about 10 times, because it's just that great.

reply

Yes, it's incredible. The entire film is.

I was HOWLING listening to his wedding ceremony speech! Brilliant!

OMG!! Sutherland's scene was, maybe, one of the greatest, evah!! Let's not forget that the script was great too, but Sutherland's performance put it over the top.
"Legally binding", "Obey: I looked at my thesaurus", the existentialist "needs the cash", "gobbledygook" in a crisp Canadian accent, etc, etc.

"And that's alright! And that's alright!"

Yeah, the two haircuts alone(and lack of facial hair on Klute) created two entirely different characters.
