Yet the kiss between Sonny and Jacey in Jacey's convertible was stunning. It was gradual, heartfelt, and innocent.

I'm generally no observer of movie kisses, but this thread prompted me to watch that scene, and yes, this was undoubtedly one of the greatest kisses

Maybe I read it wrong, but Jacey just turned into a super-slut after she lost her virginity hoping that somebody decent would marry her and take her out of that small town.
Sonny obviously wasn't her first choice (the oil guy) until she heard that he had been with Ruth (name?) ...
That's why I didn't like it. Sure it was a great-looking kiss, but I didn't feel anything emotional while watching it other than being pissed off at Jacey
I agree with you to an extent. Although I would not go so far as to call Jacy a "super-slut" (she only sleeps with two men), I will agree that she is a game player and emotion isn't a part of it. Does she feel anything for Sonny? Not one bit. Its all about manipulation. She heard from her mother that he was seeing the attractive middle aged woman across town and......so like the type that Jacy was.....she simply HAD to steal him from her. Just to prove that she could.
Same thing with the moron she messed with in the pool hall. She knew that was her mother's squeeze on the side, and she had to prove to herself that she could turn his eye as well. That's just the kind of woman that she is (not a very nice one.)
Still, it was one hell of a movie kiss.
No, super-slut is stupid thing to call a girl who has slept with two guys. It's actually an ugly thing to call any girl, but I'll accept that a lot of people seem to need to do this name-calling thing, especially if it remotely relates to girls/women and sex.
The point about Jacy's sexuality though, is that it is all she's got. She's not clever or talented , not well connected,and she sure as hell isn't well parented. But she is beautiful and able to make herself desired . It is, as for so many girls in her position, literally the only power she has- or perhaps is ever likely to have.
It always makes me sad that where men and boys are given leeway for bad behaviour, especially when the culture and circumstances around them are dire,and they are desperate to escape, girls just get called ugly names and no punishment is too bad for them.....

Yeah she only slept with 2 guys at that point, but bare in mind that one of the guys was much older and her mums suitor, and I've no doubt she'll sleep with more and more ppl.
Thus the kiss was very hollow and manipulative.

After she broke up with Duane, she appparently had an affair with Bobby Sheen, who then dumped her and ran off with Annie Annie. Besides, defending Jacy's use of her sexuality because she has no other talent is ludicrous. Her mother advises Jacy to take up with Sonny because he is probably Jacy's best bet for some temporary sexual pleasure since he's likely learned a thing or two during his affair with Ruth. But Jacy is not interested in anything so mutually beneficial as sex for pleasure and goes after Sonny with an entirely different agenda. She just wants to tease him away from Ruth Popper just to prove she can do it while drawing attention to herself with a scandal in the process. She cares nothing for Sonny or Ruth Popper's feelings. Jacy is a despicable person who uses her sexuality for the most shallow reasons (attention, power, status, notoriety) with no regard for whom she hurts or how badly. She makes the guys with their heifers and whores look like choirboys, and "slut" is too good a term for what she is.
As for the kiss, it's just one example of how incredibly alluring and stunningly beautiful Jacy was. It's easy to see why men might kill each other over her while she watched in ecstasy as they suffered for her amusement.

shareI usually don't care about movie kisses but I would agree. Even if it was an emotionless kiss from both sides.
