Hopper should be embarrassed
I doubt that anyone claiming to like this film actually watched it. I rented it under the fallacy that it starred (as the VHS box stated) 'Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda'. The result was a twisted, unintelligible embarrassment with plenty of Dennis Hopper (at his worst) and maybe 30 seconds of Peter Fonda (also at his worst). Don't misunderstand, I am a big fan of artsy, read-between-the line movies, but 'Last Movie' falls under neither category. The premise is interesting; the natives of a Peruvian village become obsessed with and decide to immitate a Hollywood troupe that films on location in Peru. A murder allegedly takes place in the process. Unfortunately, that's where all coherency ends. The most enjoyable part for me was hearing Kris Kristofferson sing a lazy rendition of his "Me and Bobby McGee". It had nothing to do with the storyline, which is probably why it was the most enjoyable part. As rare and 'avant-garde' as this film is, it is to be avoided at all costs.
He who conquers himself is mightier than he who conquers a city.
