one of herzog's best documentaries

i loved the scenes of the deaf/blind at the zoo and pool/shower scenes. that woman who traveled around to visit with others who were deaf/blind was such a strong woman.

Of the documentaries by Herzog that I've seen, it's definately my favorite. It's really one of the most moving films that I've seen, and there are so many brilliant moments in this film, some poetic (The ending with the man groping that tree), some devastating (The scene with that guy playing with the ball was painful to watch). Despite many of the depressing elements in the film, this is ultimately one of Herzog's more reassuring films, with the helpful Fini Straubinger ultimately bringing a sense of hope to a film by a director who is generally noted for his pessamistic view of humanity.

Agreed. One of Herzog's finest films.
Very informative and touching. Some of the images I know I will never forget.
