Widescreen DVD release coming soon

From Shout Factory, this will be part of a 4 movie set coming soon, along with the underrated and near forgotten VELVET VAMPIRE, plus TIME WALKER and GROTESQUE.

But it looks like it will be the 84 min theatrical version. Was a lot of nudity and violence cut from the original 99 min cut?

reply

Ah that'd be a shame if they're releasing a heavily cut version. Anyone know for sure yet?

The Elivira's films on DVD so far have featured the theatrical/edited versions for television with Elivira's comedy interwoven as aired on TV, in addition to an original uncensored version option.

My hope is that it will continue for Lady Frankenstein.

Unfortunatly the Elivira Movie Macabre version of Lady Frankenstein does not contain an uncensored version of the the film.

I know all the old Movie Mac DVD's released through Shout! distribution company contain uncensored versions. These new DVD's contain two films on each DVD but I guess it would be stretching it on DVD space to also have the uncensored versions.

So if you want the uncensored Widescreen version buy the Roger Corman collection that came out 9/27/11. If your an Elvira fan then your safe with The Elvira version which came out this week on 10/4/11.

The Shout! Factory "Vampires, Mummies & Monsters" set includes both the 84-minute (83:37) edited U.S. release version and an "international" extended edition pieced together from three different prints: the U.S. version, a satellite broadcast, and what appears to be a VHS copy. The quality of the satellite broadcast footage is inferior to the U.S. version, and the VHS footage is even worse.

As far as nudity and violence/gore, the footage removed from the U.S. release and re-inserted to create the "extended" edition contains none. All the re-inserted footage consists of plot/character development bits, not additional nudity/gore. The extended edition runs 95:44, just for the record.

Incidentally, all the re-inserted footage in the extended edition appears to be culled from a bootleg widescreen version I bought online last year from a place called "Underground Empire" (run time 94:13). That edition consists of only the satellite broadcast with the VHS footage pieced in. Shout! Factory must have re-edited it and replaced most of the satellite broadcast with their higher-quality New World print. Is that clear?

The 99-minute run time listed on IMDb for the "U.S." version would appear to be in error.

Where did you hear about the 4 movie set with Lady Frankenstein? I'm not finding it advertised anywhere.

Wrong link... This is the four-film set (from Shout! Factory) which will feature the best-looking U.S. version of the movie... It streets on Sept. 27, 2011:

It will be anamorphic widescreen; all the gore and nudity is reportedly intact. (The character/dialog scenes cut from the European version by Roger Corman may be included as a bonus feature.)

The US and longer European versions will both be included now. The longer edition won't be as collection of deleted scenes in a supplement.
