I have only the faintest of memories of this film.

I couldn't of been more than seven when my mother took me to see "Superbug"... a clear "Herbie" ripoff with some "Bond car" thrown in.

I remember only one scene clearly: that of the car scaling the walls between two buildings in the alley. Rather than "pull a Herbie" and just drive up the wall, Superbugs wheels extended outward between the buildings and then slowly (secretly in the night) climbed the building. I have no memory of what it did once it reached the top, but I just remember thinking how cool it was for a car to climb a building that way.

I don't remember the movie as being a comedy but instead a "secret agent" flick with a car in the "James Bond" role.

I've looked for a copy of the movie ever since, but no luck.

This episode in the series is the first. It shows the supposed source of DuDu (the ex American race winner Herbie #53 split in the middle),and how Bondy gets DuDu from its original importer. This is about an African Rally, where DuDu (or Love Bug as they call it) plays "service vehicle" to a hovercraft in the race. The car is yellow, but with obvious exposed white paint. How the car got welded back together and how it changed from LHD to RHD (as seen in driving sequences) is not explained.

I don't remember much from this either. I do remember the protagonist constantly assuring his sidekick "DuDu will make it all right."

So this was produced in Germany, eh? That explains a lot.

Good. I thought I had imagined this film. I was probably four or five and barely remember it at all, but I knew I had seem some movie with a Yellow VW.
