Whereabouts of the Sovscope 70mm Version?

The other night I managed to hunt down a copy of the Russian 158 min version of the film with English subtitles online, supposedly ripped from the Russian DVD release. Unfortunately, the copy was 4:3. It didn't appear to be pan & scanned or otherwise artificially manipulated as far as I could tell, but it made me wonder where that print came from, especially if the film was originally shot in 70mm.

I recall reading somewhere maybe on these message boards that when it was all said and done, the 70mm negatives were handed over to the Italian producers who then struck the 1.66:1 International Version found on the Region 1 Paramount DVD, and left the Russians with a 35mm archival copy, which is what I presume was what the Russian 158 min DVD was struck from.

My question is: does anyone know the actual (or rumored) whereabouts of the original 70mm materials, and if so who has the rights to restore this film to its original 2.20:1 ratio? Imagine viewing this thing on a restored 70mm print in the theater!

Thanks.

SEE YOU AT DA PAHTY, RICHTAH!
