Bill Cosby on the new DVD?

I looked at the back of the DVD, and it says "Bill Cosby wraparounds". I HATED that they filmed those stupid things with him and those kids in the balloon, and added it to the TV showings-anyone know if they are separate from the actual film? Thanks.

The quality of the Bill Cosby scenes are awful. It's like they took it off of an ancient beta max tape that someone used to record the movie off of TV in 1979. Fortunately it is only part of the special features section of the DVD and not the film itself.

Thank you for letting me know. Now I can buy it "worry-free".

I don't mind them as a Bonus Feature on the DVD, but there's actually a few of them missing. And I hated that they added them for TV as well.

Why did they ADD them?

I know Bill has never been known for drug use but WOW did he seem out of it in those scenes.

Basicly, Cosby was still doing stuff for FILMATION, his Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids was still in production at the time.

I guess the powers that be at FILMATION thought it would be a good idea to put footage of Bill Cosby, as the Wizard, in as "bumpers" commenting on the action from up in a balloon.

Also, if I am not mistaken, as I'm operating here on a 30-year-plus memory here, the television presentation of "Journey" aired about the same time as the release of the movie version of "The Wiz", which, as you know, had another popular black comedian at the time, Richard Pryor, in his first "family friendly" role, as the Wizard of Oz in that film.

I guess, if that is the case, FILMATION just wanted to get "hip with the times" and cast Cosby as the Wizard.

Also, Journey Back to Oz was NOT a big hit in the movies. They thought adding a star like Cosby for TV might bring extra attention to the film.

He's been known to purchase quaaludes from time to time.

LOL! That's what I was going to say. There might be a reason for his drugged out performance.
