Disappointing...

Have just seen this and found it attractively photographed but dramatically lacklustre, underplaying the necessary passion. Thommy Berggren struck me as rather miscast: sweet and puppy-like, but without the fire and acerbic humour. He came across as a bit wet, which isn't the real Joe's personality at all. And while he's not unattractive, he's nowhere near as drop-dead gorgeous as the real Joe (6' tall, slender, with fabulous cheekbones)!

I Agree. I had been waiting a long time to see this film and it is a big let-down. The print I watched was awful to look at.

Did anyone notice that in a scene in which some early unionists are trying to rally the workers, in about 1906, the crowd was yelling things like "Go back to Russia!" and "Bolshevik!"? In 1906?

The Bolshevik Party was actually formed in 1903, and there was an aborted Russian Revolution in 1905 (which I don't think the Bolsheviks had much to do with). So, I suppose it's possible people in the United States in 1905 MIGHT have heard of Bolsheviks and associated them with unions, but seems a bit of a stretch.
