Can anyone fill me in on the background of the pumpjack scene? Who is the boy who falls, and what relation is he to JW Coop? It was a very strangely placed scene in contrast to the events it was sandwiched between, and very dark as well.

The only fall I remember is when JW was flashing back to how his Dad died.
JW had just called home. Apparently his mom just died, cuz then he thinks about his dad dying when he fell off a tower and then he's walking out of a church.
Is that what you meant?

The way I read it was JW was flashing back to when he was a kid he went to the rig where his dad was working and called him to come home...that it was late and momma was waiting....and the dad fell to his death....which JW felt was his fault and had been carrying that inside him all these years....mom went nuts and he passed that bad check that sent him to prison....and he was working on his dream since he got out....carrying that burden all his life.
Just the way I thought that scene meant when I saw it.
