I tuned in to this film just after it had begun and saw Peter Fonda cutting a rope which appeared to be tied to a young child drowned in the river. What was this all about??

The kid was fishing and thought he'd hooked a big one. Turned out to be a dead girl, drifted down from upstream. Fonda figured, as drifters, they'd be blamed, so cut her loose.
